Requirements (Including Changes for 20234!
- There will be a $10/pp charge to enter the fair this year to pay for lunch in the dining hall.
- The technology test is returning this year! You may choose 6 students total from your school to take the tech test. (Students who take the tech test can still submit two technology projects; the tech test does NOT count as a "project.")
- There are both INDIVIDUAL and TEAM projects. However, for Team projects, there is a max of 2 team members, AND both team members must be filmed demonstrating the project, AND both team members must explain their personal contribution in the video.
- There are 17 categories this year (same as last year, except that Digital Art and Digital Photography are now two separate categories, and Robotics - Remote Controlled and Robotics - Independently Programmed are two separate categories)--see the state website for the categories and rubrics.
- Schools may submit up to THREE projects per category, per level, per group/individual. For larger schools, this may necessitate holding a local school fair or pre-judging to determine the top three projects per category, per level, per group/individual to send to region.
- Students MUST participate in the regional fair and place 1st or 2nd to attend the state fair. (Note: if a student has a conflict with the in-person date of the JSU fair, and if they cannot attend but their project places 1st or 2nd, they can still go to the state fair! This will eliminate issues with illness or conflicts that have been problematic in the past.)
- Individual students can only enter TWO total projects for competition, whether an individual project or a group project.
- Regardless of the length of the project, the maximum judge time is 10 minutes; therefore, judges may only view a portion of the actual project.
- Students must watch a regional orientation/instructions video (below) before submitting their project. If they progress to state, they will watch a separate state orientation video and receive a state certificate of completion. The regional fair director team is not responsible for the state procedures and all questions about state should be directed to the state personnel.
Students, parents, and sponsors - Please watch the 2024 "how to" video in its entirety, below. Thanks!
